Brazil’s Best Job: Painting Nude Carnival Models

Posted in Cool Ideas with tags , , , , , on June 14, 2009 by

In Rio de Janeiro, the Mr. Lucky of Rio’s Carnival is Betto Almeida.

Almeida a 36-year-old artist who wakes up at 8 a.m. After taking his little breakfast and surviving a commute through the city’s tough traffic, he arrives at the office by 11. At the office, he spends his working hours painting the bodies of gorgeous women while earning as high as $2,000 per day.

Almedia even said pokerfaced: “You wouldn’t believe how many applications I get for an assistant.” He mentioned such fact while continuing his work. At that time, he was brushing bright orange paint on the stomach of a model inside his glass-enclosed studio which is located under the grandstands at the Sambadrome. It was where the Rio’s Carnival parades ended Tuesday at dawn.

He also shared: “But it’s hard work, man. I take my job seriously.”

Almeida is indeed slight, soft-spoken and unassuming. He even dedicates his art to a sideshow of the samba parades where his models were able to earn about $250 per night just to mingle, while dressed only in paint and with high-rollers in the luxury boxes.

Almeida wears chequered pants, a denim-and-camouflage hat and a green shirt having a red phoenix when he goes to work with a casual air at the same time as the party-crazed hordes outside press their noses to the glass and snap photos.

Not only that, he works as television soap opera art director. However, he has been brushing, dripping and spraying paint on several of the most gorgeous bodies that Brazil’s Carnival has to display for the past 12 years.

According to Michele Peres, a 28-year-old model of Almeida who was then wearing tiny black shorts, snakeskin stilettos and a watch, the quality of this artist was important to her professional success.

She further shared that she has been modelling for Carnival and other events for nine years already. That time, Almeida has just painted a jaguar on her breasts. Peres also said that Almeida is the best body painter she was able to encounter come across and his work draws more attention to me. She said it was good for both of them.

Also, an actress became interested in Almeida’s painting. She is 22-year-old Luana Minini. She was then her first appearance as a Carnival body paint model. No wonder she took a little more timid posture. She allowed Almeida to paint on the critical areas of her body in a back room. It was only after that when she agreed to have a red parrot with green wings painted all over her chest and have it completed under the public’s gaze.

Minini said: “I’ve always worked in theatre and dance. This is a bit more free- spirited. But I’ve learned to control my nervousness. The paint acts as a cover, it makes me feel protected.”

According to both women models, some men, usually foreigners, get a bit playful in their box seats, when the models start mingling with them for 15 minutes and that was prior to a 15 minutes champagne break in a glassed-front room next to Almeida’s work space.

Minini also said that it gets a little rowdy. “Not too many men grab us or anything, but there is always one or two who get a little confused. Brazilians understand the ambiance of Carnival and they come here prepared to see this,” she continued.

While the models were being interviewed, Almeida continued working. Even if he had sweat on his brow, he stated that the hard work is worth it. He gets paid by a modelling agency that employs the women in the amount of $1,000 for the more or less two hours it takes to paint each model. He paints two women a night during the samba parades and for one typical year, he gets to paint a minimum of 50 women for different events.

Here’s what he finally stated: “I started doing it for theatre and one of the samba parade officials asked if I would do it for Carnival models. How could I say no? A lot of guys are jealous of my job.” Who would not get interested with his contemporary paintings? Other than abstract art paintings, this is another interesting painting method of original art.

Here’s another celebrity who is into nude painting. What’s interesting about this celebrity is that she is posing nude in order to support his boyfriend.

Yes, we are talking about Kate Moss who is playing a supportive girlfriend for boyfriend her Jamie Hince. James was reported to have become a keen artist and he had planned an exhibition for his work. Guess who is posing nude for “The Kills” guitarist and who is willing to have her portrait exhibited. Well, as previously mentioned, she’s the supermodel Kate Moss who was recently been included in Forbes’ annual list of the World’s Top-Earning Models of 2008.

According to a source of the Sunday Mirror, Jamie has done a selection of paintings, and among his gallery paintings would include that one of Kate, and plans to exhibit in a gallery after The Kills have finished touring. The date and place of the art exhibition of Jamie has not yet been disclosed.

It can be remembered that Moss was reported to have been replaced by singer Sophie Ellis-Bextor as the high-profile face of make-up giant Rimmel as the latter was considered as the perfect choice for the brand since the company is looking for a younger model.

This is what a source of the Sunday Mirror has to say: “Kate Moss has been fantastic but Rimmel wanted a new, fresh face. Sophie was the obvious choice. She is sexy and savvy with flawless skin and bags of attitude. She’s admired by young girls, she’s also a yummy mummy and men think she’s gorgeous.” If she is that yummy and gorgeous, Jamie Hince did not make the wrong decision in painting his girlfriend nude. This is another contemporary painting that one should look forward to seeing.

Female Nudes with Unusual Shapes

There’s one Italian painter that had two things in the fullest intensity and he is Amedeo Modigliani. The first thing refers to the art of painting while the other refers to his poverty. These two things played fundamental roles in his short and imaginative life.

The contemporary paintings of painters such as Georges Rouault, Toulouse-Laytrec, Pablo Picasso and Paul Cezanne were his favourite and they were among those that had influenced his art. What characterize the paintings of Modigliani are large spaces covered by the colours, distortion of the figure of the subjects in purpose, and the liberated use of flat areas of colour.

Even if had a lot of very beautiful portraits of unknown as well as famous people, his prominence was caused by his paintings of female nudes. What makes Modigliani’s paintings interesting is the fact that the female nudes had unusual faces.

What he preferred to use as a replacement of the natural looking faces are flat and mask like faces. His paintings show the eyes of his models that are the nude females’ eyes and most of them were shaped like almonds. As for the noses of the females, they were a bit twisted. Usually, when he creates his artistic nude paintings, most of them show the stretched out neck of the female nudes. It is notable that the paintings of Modigliani’s female nude models had fascinating arrangement of curvy lines and flat planes. What he had executed in his nudes is the remarkable idealization of feminine sexuality.

Another thing that helped him is his infrequent brushes with solid art of sculpture. Also, his friendship with Constantin Brancusi has helped him to instil in his paintings the features like simple stretched out forms, strong linear rhythms, and distinguished verticality. You might want to visit an abstract art gallery as it may exhibit these famous Italian paintings.

The Sarah Palin Nude Painting a Big Hit

Did you know that our famous candidate Sarah Palin has a Nude Painting and it became a big hit? In fact, the Chicago artist who drew the portrait of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is now drawing crowds to his bar in the buff.

This artist is none other than Bruce Elliott. According to the Windy Citizen reports, Elliot revealed the 4-foot-tall portrait at the Old Town Ale House on Chicago’s North Side. At the portrait, the governor is in her trademark hairdo, plus she was holding an automatic rifle while standing naked on a polar-bear skin rug.

What grabbed one of the viewer’s attentions is the typical Palin’s inimitable hairdo plus her outsized glasses, not her nude painting. Can you imagine Peggy Hill from “King of the Hill” naked? If you can, then you have got to see this guy’s painting.

At first, one viewer said that his initial impression on the painting is that it is the sexist to trivialize and objectify an important female by painting her in the nude. Would you want a nude painting of John McCain or Joe Biden? Ask Bruce Elliott to do that!

It can be remembered that Palin became John McCain’s running mate.

If you want to view a lot more images and paintings of celebrities, the Ole Town Ale House is open for you. Palin’s nude painting can also be viewed in the said gallery. You might also find one in an abstract art gallery. Who would not think that her crazy do, unique glasses, and beauty queen looks would qualify her as a celebrity?

Nude painting is indeed a contemporary painting that is very interesting to view together with other gallery paintings. Would you not agree?

Naked Skin as Canvas

As we all know, social attitudes about artistic nudity have changed. This has from time to time led to conflict over art that no longer conforms to prevailing standards. Like for instance, some members of the Roman Catholic Church once organized the so-called “fig-leaf campaign” to cover nudity in art, starting from the works of Renaissance artist Michelangelo but the Church has since removed such fig leaves and restored the works.

The nude has become an enduring genre of representational art, especially painting, sculpture and photography. It depicts people without clothes, usually with stylistic and staging conventions that distinguish the artistic elements such as innocence or similar theatrical/artistic elements of being nude with the more provocative state of being naked.

A nude figure is one, such as a goddess or a man in ancient Greece, for whom the lack of clothing is its usual condition, so that there is no sexual suggestiveness presumed.

A special case, where nudity, though not permanent, is physically necessary for the art to be created and observed, is body art which uses the skin as the medium like a painter’s canvas upon which the markings are created.

While the techniques used, such as tattooing and scarification are often used in a more artisanal way, as most body markings have less of anaesthetic than a social and communicative purpose. Some clients carefully select artists and designs for artistic beauty to decorate significant skin surfaces, preferably coordinating the different designs — some like displaying them in public while others rather keep them hidden except in select company, accordingly preferring to mark body parts that are commonly clad.
